Tamplodge, settled in the Tampolo wonderful bay, is among the best accomodation establishment offering a pleasant sojourning right in the middle of Masoala National Park.
This little resort lodgement is made up by double room bungalows, and on 2001 it was the starting off camp for scientific work by a mission interested in discoveries about the canopy of Masoala primary forest. On site there is a dynamic staff of young people organizing unusual trip for tourists, both by land and by river, that give the chance to discover the landscape, the flora, the fauna and the ethnography.
Inside the establishment a small catering room serving good food is available. Today Tampolodge is frequented more and more, and is a useful starting off basis for more than one expedition to the forest and also towards marine park.

Masoala forest is shelter to an incredible variety of orchids and lianes, but also to many species of epipithic plants of Paperomia, Medinilla et Kalanehoe genera. Marshes are .overwhelming with the Raphia species of monocarpics palm plants, with some giant arum lilies and some Pandanus.
It’s easy to come across primates of the family Lemuridae and to observe birds, insects, amphibians and reptiles. Diurnal lemurs of Varecia Variegata Rubra species and noctural lemurs of Fulvus species are quite common here and it’s even possible to spot the quite rare and nocturnal aye-aye Lemur. Chameleons are widespread, especially the representatives of Borkesia and Furcifer genera. At sunrise thanks to the first sun beams it’s possible to discern geckos of genus Philusuma and during the night with a bit of chance the Uroplautus will be seen going hunting. The most demanding trekkers will have the chance to spot among the many birds some typical example of serpentine eagle and the much sought-after Euriceros Prevost.

The Tampolo Marine Park, which stands among the three settled in Masoala peninsula, is one of the richest about aquatic species. In there Acanthums, Balistoides et Pomacantus genera can reach sometimes considerable dimensions and surely the sea bottom strewn with corals, Acrophora and many shells of Tridacna type will make you dream. The site is also recommended for turtle watching, and on the period going from beginning of august until the end of September will over the Antogil bay it’s possible to stumble in whales and their young offsprings.
